More than 250 volunteers share their time, talents, and connections to support our students and teachers every day. On campus and around the world, they strengthen our community and support meaningful opportunities for our students. From alumni class agents and fundraising volunteers to parent leaders and Leadership Darlington participants, our volunteers step up in countless ways to make a difference.

Today, we’re featuring Lauren Stone (’02, LD ’24), whose commitment to Darlington reaches across our community. Lauren leads both the Fine Arts Booster Club and Parents Council, has participated in Leadership Darlington, and supports the Purple Tie and Parents for Purple (Darlington Fund) fundraising initiatives. We’re grateful for her leadership and for all the volunteers whose generosity and dedication help our school succeed every day.

What are all the ways you have served as a volunteer for Darlington?
I am currently serving as the Parents' Council president. I also support Kim Tunnell as the Fine Arts Booster Club president. I have loved volunteering at events such as Tiger Fest and field day. In the past, I have also enjoyed hosting class parties at my house, such as the Easter egg hunts that the children participate in when they are in the cottages.

As an alumna and a parent, what makes volunteering at Darlington meaningful to you?
A big part of what makes Darlington special is family involvement. I have fond memories of my mom organizing high school dances and volunteering at the lower school back when we had the fall carnival on the Thornwood campus. My dad was always a big help on Friday nights at Chris Hunter Stadium, helping the cheerleaders get their equipment to the field! In the same way I was, I know that my children are proud when they see us getting involved.

You give your time in so many ways, including leading Parents Council and the Fine Arts Booster Club. What inspires you to stay involved?
My kids have encouraged me to take on more volunteer opportunities at Darlington. They love it when I report back to them after a meeting to let them know what all is going on. Additionally, Darlington has changed so much since I was a student, so it is especially interesting for me to hear about all the different things happening at the Upper School!

What is a favorite moment from your volunteer work that reminds you why you do it?
2025 was my first year as Fine Arts booster club president. I got to see firsthand what all goes into the production of the Winter Musical. When I took my boys to see "Hadestown" at the City Auditorium, I could see their excitement watching the high schoolers putting on such an awesome show. It made me realize that Jack will be up on that stage before we know it!

How did participating in Leadership Darlington shape your understanding of the school and the ways you could make a difference?
Leadership Darlington made me realize what a well-oiled machine Darlington is when it comes to daily operations, fundraising and campus life. We cannot function without family involvement!

What would you tell another parent or alum who is considering getting involved?
Find your niche and get involved. There are so many different ways you can help. If you need ideas, ask your kids!
