The Purple Tie Tiger Tailgate was a huge success this year and grossed a total of $328,674 for Darlington’s four parent organizations: Pre-K to 8 Tiger Pride, Upper School Tiger Pride, Athletic Booster Club and Fine Arts Booster Club.
“We had a wonderful night!” said Julie (Wilson) Lucas (‘97), chief advancement officer. “The Purple Tie Tiger Tailgate had 55 paws raised, 135 personal and business donors, 245 donated items, 357 online bidders and 450 attendees.”
Attendees came from Georgia, Texas, Louisiana, Bermuda, China, Sweden and Germany.
“The Purple Tie was really special this year and brought a great energy to kick off the school year,” said Head of School Brent Bell. “Parents were ready to celebrate Darlington and we are grateful that they came to support.”
Guests were entertained by KAMP Band and enjoyed food from Flik Independent School Dining. They also participated in a silent auction, live auction and Raise the Paw led by auctioneer Lou Dempsey (’87, LD ’17).
Lou’s classmate, Kimberly (Murphy) Moseley (‘87), kicked off the Raise the Paw portion of the evening, which will support Upper School athletics and fine arts facilities this year.
“I love this community. It is a special community. This community is made up of all different types of people from all over the world, and wherever I have been in my life, I have found people with connections to Darlington and immediately we have a bond,” said Moseley. “I feel incredibly lucky and blessed to have been a part of this community for over 40 years … Look around the room at this amazing community that we all belong to and just appreciate being a part of [it].”
