Day #SeniorSpotlight: Lucy Aultman

Tannika King | April 18, 2022 | 393 views

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

In this #SeniorSpotlight, get to know Lucy Aultman, a five-year day student from Rome who loves the community atmosphere at Darlington and wants to work in international relations.

When you think of Darlington, what three words come to mind first?
Potential, support, community

When you think of high school, what song comes to mind?
“Don't You (Forget About Me)” by Simple Minds

What's your favorite show to binge watch?
“Yellowstone”

What house are you a member of?
Thornwood House

What are you involved in at Darlington?
I played varsity volleyball. I am a member of the “Y” Cabinet, the Student Activities Committee, and Model UN.

If you play sports, who is your favorite coach and why?
My volleyball coach this year, Coach Chris, has been my favorite coach. She always pushes everyone on the team to be our best selves on and off the court, and has been one of my biggest motivators.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?
My favorite places on campus are the hiking trails; I love that we have access to areas where we can take a break from the stress of schoolwork and just be surrounded by nature.

Who's your favorite teacher and why?
My favorite teacher is Mr. Cox. He was my ninth-grade English teacher, and now he is my college advisor. He is always there to listen when I need to talk. He emphasizes staying on top of your responsibilities and not overwhelming yourself, which is something I've had to work on a lot. He makes all of us laugh when we are stressed out.

What's your favorite thing about Darlington?
I love the community at Darlington, how everyone cares about one another and wants everyone else to do well.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
RUMPUS is such a unique experience to Darlington. Other schools have field days, but to compete between houses the way that we do is something so different from any other high school.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I've learned to be proud of what I am passionate about. I've learned the importance of surrounding myself with others that make me feel happy to go to school every day. I've really come out of my shell since coming to Darlington.

Where do you want to go to college and what is your dream job?
UGA and I would like to work in international relations.
