Each year the Darlington Upper School cheerleaders spend several days learning new material for the upcoming sports' seasons. This year we attended a UCA cheerleading camp at Auburn University.
Our week started off bright and early Tuesday morning with a spirited send off from the football team! After traveling several hours to Auburn, getting moved into the dorms, and eating a quick lunch; we were ready to take the floor.
Camp days are long! We arrive in the gym at 8 a.m. and don't return to the dorm until after 9 p.m. The day is spent learning new cheers, dances, stunts, pyramids, and getting evaluated.
The last day of camp is dedicated to competition. This year's camp session had almost 500 cheerleaders respresenting schools from Georgia, Alabama, and Florida.
On the second night of camp Grace Ann Lundy, Jonna Massey, and Logan Parker were selected to participate in a jump off. Grace Ann won!
Right before dinner on the third day, Emily Anne Trebus, Emma Klaire Atkins, Grace Ann Lundy, Jonna Massey, Christa Twyman, and Allison King participated in All American tryouts by doing a jump, a cheer, and a dance. Grace Ann was selected as an All American.
Later on in the evening, Emily Anne Trebus was selected by the UCA staff as a Pin it Forward recipient for her leadership and going above and beyond when learning new material.
On the final day of camp the team won several trophies for cheer, dance, and Game Day Routine. Parker Scott, our Tiger mascot, won the MOST SPIRITED mascot award, Logan Parker was given a Pin from a cheerleader from another school for being kind throughout the week, and Emily Anne Trebus and Grace Ann Lundy were offered UCA staff applications for next summer.
It was an extrememly successful week, and we are ready to show our new routines in the fall!
