Boarding #SeniorSpotlight: Daria Black

Jennifer Collins | February 19, 2021 | 292 views

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

In this #SeniorSpotlight get to know Daria Black, a four-year boarding student from Cinnaminson, N.J., who recently helped co-found Darlington’s Black Student Union.

When you think of high school, what song comes to mind?

“Full Disclosure”

What's your favorite show to binge on Netflix?

”Big Mouth”

What house are you a member of?

Regester House

What are you involved in at Darlington?

Theater, Black Student Union (BSU), Academic Mentoring Program (AMP), French Club, Regester House Leader, Senior Ventures (click here to listen to her first podcast episode)

Theater because it allows me to be creative in an open environment.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?

I love to take walks around Silver Lake; it’s so calm and serene.

Who's your favorite teacher and why?

Mr. Kinney because he has always been there to listen to me and gives me sound advice in my moments of need.

What's your favorite thing about Darlington?

My favorite thing about Darlington is how the teachers and administration want the students to succeed. I have been able to reinvent, create and cultivate my skills in a union that I helped start from the ground up. I also love how willing the teachers are to listen to their students.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.

I have had teachers decide that we would take class on the road and go walk on the trails and learn, rather than sitting in a classroom.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?

I have been able to become more independent and explore a variety of options.

Where do you want to go to college and what is your dream job?

I have options in the Northeast and I plan on pursuing medical school.
