Senior Ventures Spotlight: Owen Payne

Owen Payne | October 6, 2020 | 540 views

My name is Owen Payne, and my Senior Ventures project involves creating and running a full fledged media outlet dedicated to the world of cars. I have noticed that our community in Rome is rich and diverse with car enthusiasts. I want to reach this community by completing a short podcast series about cars. I will use this as a jumping off point into creating car vlogs and reviews. I will use research and factual data to back up my points and discussions. My main goal is to encourage others to become car enthusiasts.

I want to be a very welcoming outreach into those interested in the car world but maybe not wholeheartedly dedicated to it. I also hope to share my passion for cars with those who are the biggest petrol heads around. There is a gap in the market for a younger view into the world of cars, and I want to provide information about cars from a young person’s point of view. I have some connections with people that work at NAPA, Pirelli, and BMW. I am hoping these fellow car enthusiasts will assist me with this Senior Venture.

I have selected this project because I have been in love with cars since I was about three years old. The way engineering marvels and modern art come together to form something truly awe inspiring is what attracts me to cars. Cars are also something a good majority of people have in common whether it be everyday cars, trucks, sports cars, or even exotic cars. Everyone knows what a car is and deep down we all have a passion to go fast and have fun. Soon, I will introduce you to my media outlet... Haulin Gass.

My mentors for this project are Shelley Daniel, Owen Kinney and David Martin.

The Senior Ventures leadership program is a year-long senior project built on a framework of leadership, innovation, and community engagement. The topic and the project design are chosen by an individual student or a pair of students, and the journey is guided by Darlington faculty as well as mentors in the community. Most projects fall into one of the following categories: Investigation, Performance, Entrepreneurship, and Outreach. Candidates are selected according to proposal quality, feasibility, and commitment.
