Our Meet the Alumni Council series allows the personalities of our alumni volunteers shine through. The Darlington Community is fortunate to have such a strong group of alumni willing to share their time and talents to better our school!

Newly elected council member Dani (Baker) Wilson (’11, LD ’20) lives in Cedar Bluff, Ala., and works as an agent aspirant and office representative for State Farm Insurance in Centre, Ala.

Let’s get to know Dani in today’s installment of our Meet the Alumni Council series:

What made you want to serve on the Alumni Council?

I had the opportunity to participate in Leadership Darlington this year, which really renewed my passion for Darlington. It is such a special place to so many and I am excited to help any way that I am able.

Tell us a little about your family:

I have been married to my husband Kyle for four years. We are both graduates of The University of Alabama - Roll Tide! We have two dogs, Honey and Jack, and a cat named Scout.

What music is playing in your car?

It’s likely to be The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, or Billy Joel, but could also be Lizzo.

What were your favorite classes at Darlington?

I loved Mr. Inman and Mr. Hudson’s classes. They were both such a great environment to walk into while also learning so much. Mr. Hudson had a way of making science, which was never my strong suit, seem goofy and fun in a way I had never experienced.

My favorite trip was...

My husband and I got to experience northern Italy last summer hiking the Dolomites. It was amazing.

If I could travel anywhere it would be....

Machu Picchu, Patagonia, The Galapagos, Iceland. Can you tell I like nature?

My favorite Darlington memory is...

I don’t really have a specific memory that sticks out as a favorite, but my favorite times were hanging out in the cove with my friends during free periods. I also loved RUMPUS weekend!

Last book I read for fun was....

"The Giver of Stars" by Jojo Moyes

Beach or mountains?

I can’t choose! Both.

E-book or hardcover?

E-book for everyday, but a hardcover if I’m at the beach.

The best advice I ever received was...

From my grandmother who said enjoying life means finding joy in simple, everyday things which, by the way, are not really simple at all.

My hobby is...

I love spending time outside hiking or on the lake I grew up on. I also enjoy working out, reading and traveling.

Cats or dogs?

Dogs all the way!

My favorite saying is...

Treat others the way you’d like to be treated.

What I like most about Darlington is...

The community at Darlington is amazing. I also love the exposure to people from all over the world that you wouldn’t get to meet otherwise.
