Darlington School freshman Hayden Shinn (‘20), a quarterback for the junior varsity and varsity football teams, was selected to play in the ninth grade division of the 2016 Diamond All-American Bowl Games, held in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Dec. 29 and 31, 2016.

The Diamond All-American Bowl Games are comprised of athletes from all over the United States and Canada and players are selected from among players that obtain a Diamond Certification from state combines as well as athletes that are nominated by their athletic coach or parent. There are a total of seven All American Bowl games played throughout the weekend to cover various age divisions which range from third to twelfth grade.

“I am very proud of Hayden for being selected to play in the Diamond All-American Bowl this year. He is a very dedicated young man and has a very bright future as a football player at Darlington,” said Tommy Atha, associate athletic director and head varsity football coach. "I look forward to watching Hayden continue to grow and get better and better.  Hayden’s willingness to work on his skills in the offseason will certainly benefit him in the future. Being selected to play in this game is a tremendous honor for him and for our program."

Shinn attended Football University last spring and has also attended several camps presented by Diamond Sports Group with a focus on the quarterback and running back positions. In May he was invited to participate in the Diamond All-American Bowl Games and was one of three quarterbacks for his team.
