Eighth-grader David Braden was recognized earlier this week as Darlington's Noon Optimist Club Student of the Semester. The awards were given to outstanding eighth-grade students representing area schools at a reception on Monday, May 11.
Braden was nominated by Middle School head football coach and ELA-8 English teacher Charlie Beaucham.
"David is a highly intelligent and athletic young man, but what sets him apart is his unselfishness and ability to overcome adversity," said Beaucham. "He was a great role model to our younger players and showed them what it really means to put your team before yourself.”
In addition to playing football this year, the rising freshman also ran track and field and played viola in the Middle School orchestra. He has attended Darlington since fourth grade.
David is the son of Misty and David Braden Sr. ('90) of Rome.
