Darlington's athletic program is an integral part of school life. It includes
a wide range of sports, and all students who are physically able are encouraged
to participate in some form of activity. The normal esprit de corps will lead
most to desire and to work for positions representing the school on teams in
interscholastic competition.
Competing in the Georgia High School Association, Darlington fields varsity
teams in 11 sports for boys: cross country, football, basketball, swimming and
diving, wrestling, baseball, golf, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, and track and
field, and 11 sports for girls: cheerleading, cross country, softball,
volleyball, basketball, swimming and diving, golf, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, and
track and field. There are also junior varsity and freshmen teams in many
sports. Darlington's teams are perennially competitive and have won subregion,
region, and state championships.
The goals of the athletic program are developing skills, working together
toward a positive team experience, learning good sportsmanship, realizing
individual and group potential, and having the chance to compete. Most faculty
members coach a sport, and virtually all coaches are faculty members.
