Final phases underway at baseball complex

Construction on Darlington's baseball complex continues to progress, nearing its final stages.

The final phases of renovation to Darlington's baseball complex are currently underway so that the facility will be ready in time for the spring season. This project has been funded by parents in partnership with the Athletic Booster Club.

"Phase one of the baseball complex was done in 2012 and we are very excited to see the completion of the final phases this year," said Kent Harrison ('01), associate athletic director and head baseball coach. "It has been amazing to watch both current families and alumni families make this dream a reality."

Phase two involves moving the visitors' dugout so that it is a safer distance away from the home plate and adding some spectator seating. Phase three includes the addition of a wall down the first and third base lines.

"I am grateful to those who have helped as well as supported us in making this happen," said Harrison. "It is great day for our players and the countless players that will enjoy our facility in the future."

The first phase of the baseball complex was completed in May 2012, and saw the addition of a new home dugout and field drainage system; men's and women's restrooms; a 2,400-square-foot, climate-controlled locker room; a new scoreboard and sound system; a windscreen surrounding the field; and a 5,500-square-foot covered and lighted area containing four 70-foot batting cages, pitching areas and two pitching machines. Beyond baseball, other athletic and summer programs have been able to make use of the updated complex due to its convenient location.
