Two nominated in Student of the Year Competition

Two seniors have been nominated to represent Darlington in the Rome Noon Optimist Club Student of the Year competition: Kataeya Wooten in the Community Involvement category and Chas Williams in All-Around.

Wooten is an Elson S. Floyd Scholar, an AP Scholar, an Admission Tiger Expert and a servant leader. She was also named an Outstanding Participant in the 2014 National Achievement Scholarship Program after scoring in the top three percent of more than 160,000 black Americans who took the PSAT. A member of the Headmaster's List, Wooten is a recipient of the Rhodes College Book Award, the St. Lawrence Book Award, The Inkslinger Adviser's Award and the E.L. Wright Award for Yearbook. She is the daughter of  KaTriena Wooten.

Williams is a four-year member of the varsity football and lacrosse teams and a nominee for the Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority's John Pinson Outstanding Student Athlete Award. He has received the Scholar-Athlete Award for both of his sports, and was named the lacrosse team's Most Valuable Midfielder in 2012. Williams, who currently serves as president of the Discipline Committee, is also a member of National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Spanish National Honor Society and the Admission Tiger Experts. An AP Scholar With Distinction, he is a recipient of E.L. Wright Scholastic Awards for Algebra 1 Honors, Geometry Honors and AP Environmental Science as well as the George Eastman Young Leaders Award. He is the son of Liz and Charlie Williams ('82) of Rome.

Student of the Year winners will be announced at the Student of the Year Banquet on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 6 p.m. Finalists, their parents and school representatives are invited to attend.
