Darlington will host its annual Alumni Weekend celebration Friday through Sunday, Oct. 15-17. The weekend will celebrate class years ending in 5 and 10.
“This year’s Alumni Weekend event is extra special because we have paired our activities with Darlington’s annual Fall for the Arts celebration,” said Vicki Vincent, director of alumni relations. “Our Alumni Council members and class agents have worked very hard to offer a weekend full of opportunities for our alumni to reconnect with friends and return to our beautiful campus to witness all the exciting transformations that have taken place. I want to encourage everyone to join us in October. You won’t want to miss it!”
Friday’s activities will feature a Distinguished Alumnus Luncheon and Darlington Celebration honoring Claude Booker Jr. (’50) and recently deceased alumnus Dr. Joe Johnson (’47). From noon to 4 p.m., alumni are invited to see a variety of performances by Darlington’s talented students at the annual Fall for the Arts Festival, held at the Thatcher Hall Courtyard (at the Middle School). The evening will kick off with a Pre-Game Picnic on Morris Chapel Lawn at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Homecoming football game vs. Bowdon in Chris Hunter Stadium. At halftime, all alumni are invited up to the Huffman Center’s Yancey Suite for refreshments.
Alumni can enjoy the amenities of Darlington’s Huffman Center on Saturday morning; the weight room will be open from 8-10 a.m. Alumni and student artwork will be on display in Thatcher Hall’s Ledbetter Commons (at the Middle School) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. At 10:30 a.m., alumni are invited to meet at Morris Chapel as the Class of 2005 dedicates a Centennial Plaque and the Class of 1990 hosts a memorial dedication in honor of Lisa Anne White (’90). A Town Hall Meeting with Darlington’s administration will follow at 11 a.m. in Thatcher Hall’s Johnson Assembly and Dining Room (at the Middle School). After an Alumni Cookout on the Morris Chapel Lawn at noon, students will give campus tours by the Lakeside.
At 3 p.m., alumni are invited to a Fall for the Arts Instrumental Concert in Morris Chapel. Golden Tigers, alumni who have been out of school for 50 or more years, will be honored at a 4 p.m. reception at the Home-on-the-Hill, to be followed by an Alumni Cocktail Party at the same location, which will begin at 5 p.m. (Please note that all class photos will be taken during the Cocktail Party, so please see the schedule online to determine what time your class’s photo will be made.) All class reunion parties will be held after the Alumni Cocktail Party at various locations, except the Classes of 1945, 1950 and 1955 parties which will be held on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the McCallie-Kennedy Library. Additional events planned for the Classes of 1985, 1990 and 1995 are detailed in the Alumni Weekend invitations, which should be arriving in mailboxes soon.
The weekend’s activities will conclude Sunday with a Service of Remembrance in Morris Chapel, a J.
