At least four of Darlington’s athletic programs will see coaching changes or additions in 2009-10, announced Athletic Director Bob Stinchcomb today. Brianna Caldwell, who has been hired to teach Health and Fitness, will be assistant coach of the girls’ varsity basketball team and coach of the girls’ varsity and junior varsity soccer teams. She recently graduated from Berry College, where she played basketball and served as a student athletic trainer for three years. She has also had internships with Advance Rehabilitation, the YMCA and the Rome City School Nutrition Program. Leanne Mann, Upper School English teacher, has been named director of operations for Coosa International Tennis Academy, a nine-month tennis training program made possible through a partnership between Darlington School and Coosa Country Club. She will work with Freddie Rodriguez, CITA’s director of tennis instruction. Mann has more than 20 years of coaching and teaching experience in a variety of different sports. At Darlington, she has coached tennis, track and volleyball. Stephen Melton, who has been hired to teach Upper School Spanish, has also been named head coach of the varsity volleyball team. He has seven years of experience coaching high school volleyball and was a member of Virginia Tech’s volleyball team from 1989-93. After college, he continued to play in co-ed, six-person recreation leagues and two-man field volleyball competitions. Chad Woods, Upper School math teacher and varsity baseball coach, has been named head coach of the varsity softball team. He has eight years of experience coaching baseball, basketball and softball, and has served as the assistant softball coach at Darlington for the past two years.
