Darlington falls for the arts

Since its inception in 1991, Darlington’s annual fine arts event has evolved from a one-day festival to a month-long Fall for the Arts celebration involving the Lower, Middle and Upper Schools. The following events have been scheduled for this year’s celebration in October:

Oct. 1–5: Guests artists Colleen Byer, Janda Canalis, Julie Cooper, Vicki McKenzie and Terry Moon visit Studio Art classes

Oct. 2: Guest artist Bill Wear to work with Middle School trumpets; Samantha Lester to work with Upper School Strings (every Tuesday in October)

Oct. 3: Upper School Wind Ensemble/Orchestra performs in Morris Chapel at 11 a.m.; Guest artist Kim Brackett to work with Middle School percussionists (every Wednesday in October)

Oct. 5: Darlington's Stadium Band plays during the Homecoming game vs. Armuchee, which begins at 7:30 p.m. at Chris Hunter Stadium.

Oct. 7: The Virginia Belles, a ladies' ensemble from the University of Virginia, performs in Morris Chapel at 5 p.m.

Oct. 6: Instrumental ensemble group performs at Alumni Luncheon on the Chapel Lawn at 12:30 p.m.

Oct. 10: Guest musician John Simpson ('73) performs in Morris Chapel at 11 a.m.; Stadium Band performs at Lower School at 2:15 p.m.

Oct. 11: Evening trip to Shorter College "Gamelan" rehearsal

Oct. 13: GISA Stadium Band competition

Oct. 16: GMEA All-State Jazz auditions

Oct. 22-23: Guest artist Chris Hall works with Musical Theatre and Choral students in Zelle Fine Arts Building

Oct. 23: Studio Art trip to the High Museum in Atlanta

Oct. 24: Guest artist Margaret Griffin speaks about African art and tribal music in Morris Chapel at 11 a.m.

Oct. 25, 27: Student-directed production "Actin' Out" begins at 8 p.m. in Zelle Drama Room.

Oct. 26: Stadium Band performs at football game vs. Coosa, which begins at 7:30 p.m.

Oct. 28: Fall for the Arts Festival kicks off with "Songs of the People," a choral concert, at 3 p.m. in Morris Chapel. An instrumental concert featuring Upper and Middle School students, art activities, and silent auction will follow on the Chapel Lawn. Click here to get a sneak peek at the auction items.

Oct. 29: Guest photography artist Kelly Moore ('95) works with Lower School art classes.
