Storytime STEAM in the ELA

Smith Smarties and Deaton Darlings spent their first exploratory period working on a STEAM project. We read the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and then worked on building a coconut tree with blocks, sticks and letters. The goal was to build a tree that could hold the most letters. We learned that there are many ways to succeed!

Collins hired as content manager

Jennifer Collins has joined the Darlington Community as content manager for the Communication Office.

 

3-5 Team "Explores" Olympic Rings

Third through fifth grade combined into 4 groups in which they learned about the history of the Olympic rings. We watched a cool video about how the rings became one of the primary Olympic symbols. Then, while working in groups, we used our Origami skills to make the Olympic rings out of paper.

 

Luitwieler hired to teach math, coach soccer

Kurt Luitwieler has joined the Darlington Community to teach math at the Upper School and coach soccer. He will be head boys' soccer coach in addition to working with Darlington School Soccer Academy. Luitwieler looks forward to getting back into the classroom and to combining his two passions, teaching and soccer, for the benefit of students.

McVety hired to lead choral program for grades 6-12

Ben McVety has joined the Darlington Community as choral director for grades 6-12. He holds a Bachelor of Music from the College of William and Mary and a Master of Music Education from Indiana University.
