Wednesday, September 23, 2015 | By RuthAnne Anderson | 442 views

Darlington hosted a special service in memory of Dr. Elson S. Floyd ('74) on Wednesday to celebrate the legacy of the school's first black graduate. The Celebration of Life service featured reflections from students, faculty, friends and family, and also included an official Resolution of Respect.

In attendance were Dr.
Floyd's widow, Carmento, his son, Kenneth, his mother, Dorothy, classmates from the Class of 1974, members of the Board of Trustees, and the Upper School student body.

Just prior to the program, the area surrounding the flagpole on the northwest bank of Silver Lake was officially dedicated as Dr. Elson S. Floyd ('74) Legacy Point.

The Darlington alumnus passed away in June due to complications from cancer at the age of 59.
