Chemistry in the ELA

Last week, Mrs. Dodd's Chemistry students explained the Periodic Chart to ELA-8 students visiting their chemistry lab. They saw all the special equipment and really wanted to see something "blow up." But it didn't! The chemistry students had it all under control! It was exciting to hear about the great things they are learning. Mrs. Dodd described a special pumpkin project that we would do together called the "Periodic Table of Pumpkins." Today, we completed the project! Each ELA student was coached by a Chemistry student as we labeled our pumpkins with the element names and the atomic numbers. We placed them all in the ELA courtyard as Mrs. Dodd called out our element names in the correct order. Lastly, Mrs. Dodd told us a story about Little Pumpkin. He ate so much Halloween candy that he got sick. Mrs. Dodd gave him some "medicine" and he THREW UP! It was great!!! It was a chemical reaction! We had so much fun and we learned a lot, too! Drive by for a peek at our Periodic Pumpkin Patch! Thank you Mrs. Dodd and Chemistry students! We loved it all!
