Vote Rome for Best Tennis Town

The City of Rome (Ga.) is a Top-10 finalist in the United States Tennis Association’s Best Tennis Town contest! This is more than an honor; it puts the city in line to possibly receive up to $100,000 in cash to improve its tennis offerings and facilities.

Darlington School is always proud to host the Rome Symphony Orchestra’s summer pops concert, but this year’s event was particularly exciting for Darlington because our instrumental director and a group of his students were part of the performance!

As the members of the Class of 2010 celebrate their recent commencement and look forward to beginning a new phase in their lives, I want to share with you some exciting news! These 133 students performed remarkably well in college admissions, despite the fact that colleges and universities across the country have become increasingly more selective.

Crunching the Numbers

Admission this year is trending much more positively than last year, and that is partly because of YOU. The number of referrals we are seeing from parents, faculty and staff, and alumni has skyrocketed; word of mouth is our best marketing tool, and you all are doing a great job. Please keep it up!

The Semester System

As we continue to build Darlington’s academic program PK-12, we have made the decision to move to a semester-based schedule in 2010-11. This is becoming the norm at college-prep schools across the nation, but that’s not the reason we are making the change. A great deal of research and many thoughtful discussions have made it clear that this truly is the best decision for Darlington, and I am confident that a semester system will best prepare our students for the experiences they will have in college.

Join Us for Parents Weekend!

We have planned an exciting weekend Feb. 19-21 to showcase our students and programs to all of our wonderful parents, and we hope you will be able to join us! This is the first year that Parents Weekend will be open to ALL families, pre-K to 12, and I think you will be pleased with the diversity of the events we have selected to give you a taste of the Darlington experience.

A New Chapter

I want to let all of you know that longtime faculty members Sally Rudert and Elaine Smith have shared their plans to retire at the end of the school year. While it is always sad to see our colleagues go, especially those who have dedicated so much of their lives to this wonderful place, Sally and Elaine have expressed that they are anticipating the next phase of their lives with great enthusiasm.
