Let’s get to know Jennifer Hughes, a 14-year day student from Rome who was recently named Volunteer of the Year by Extra Special People Inc., an organization that creates transformative experiences for people with disabilities and their families.

Wisdom, service, honor
What song reminds you of high school?
“Senior Skip Day” by Mac Miller
What's your favorite show to binge watch?
Probably “The Office”
What's your favorite restaurant in Rome?
Aventine
What house are you a member of?
Cooper House
What are you involved in at Darlington?
I am the day head prefect of Cooper House, president of the Discipline Committee, and vice president of Spanish Club.
What's your favorite place on campus and why?
I love love love the lake. It reminds me to be grateful for having such a beautiful campus.
Who's your favorite teacher and why?
My pre-K teacher, Mrs. Beth Smith, is my favorite!
What’s your favorite thing about Darlington?
The community is so, so, so special to me and I also love the campus.
Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
The zoology trip with Mr. Kinney! It was just the most fun ever and Mr. Kinney knows everything.
What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I have grown from a 5-year-old into a young adult. Darlington has entirely shaped me into the person I am today.
What is your dream job?
Pediatric occupational therapist
