Boarding #SeniorSpotlight: Jasmine Simmons

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

Let’s get to know Jasmine Simmons, a two-year boarding student from New Jersey who loves playing lacrosse and making memories with her friends in Regester House.

When you think of Darlington, what three words come to mind first?
Community, RUMPUS, happiness

What's your favorite show to binge watch?
“Gossip Girl”

What's your favorite restaurant in Rome?
Dos Bros

What house are you a member of?
Regester House

What are you involved in at Darlington?
I'm in DECA, which is a business club.

If you play sports, who is your favorite coach and why?
Mrs. Collier - she believed in me my first year of lacrosse and pushed me to be the best player I could be, guiding me to love the sport and my team.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?
My room late at night because all my friends always come together and whether it is talking, having a dance party, watching a movie, or anything else, we always create memories that I will forever cherish. I also love the lacrosse field because it is where I fell in love with not only the sport, but also pushing myself to excel in something that challenged me non-academically.

Who's your favorite teacher and why?
Mr. Enderle - he helps us grow as students by pushing us to work hard and by making class a fun environment for us to learn in. Mrs. Nagle - she acts as a supporter for me on campus, and I always know who to go to if I need help or someone to talk to.

What’s your favorite thing about Darlington?
My favorite things about Darlington are the people I've met and the family I've built on campus. I love the little things throughout the school day that bond me closer to my friends such as RUMPUS, games, lacrosse practice, dinner, fourth meal, everything.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
RUMPUS and attending football games are two surreal experiences that I've had at Darlington that truly exemplify the community on campus in a way I've never experienced at another school. I love the sense of school spirit and pride that I feel at Darlington, so much that it is a major thing I'm looking for in a university. I love cheering on our Tigers and having fun with the student body.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I've learned how to manage my time, work hard and push myself when things are tough, grow with my peers into the people we strive to be, and how to go out of my comfort zone by joining a new school and meeting new people.

What is your dream job?
I would love to be a fashion editor for a well-respected fashion magazine.
