At Darlington, we believe that summer reading should promote positive, enjoyable reading experiences through optional and required reading. Each child will read books for his/her rising grade level. The grade level selections are meant to be easy enough to read without a teacher’s help and should promote a pleasing experience for each reader.
Summer reading also offers a great opportunity for parents to engage children in important conversations about the books they are reading. The most important ways for parents to be involved are in guiding children in their book selections and discussing the books with their children throughout the entire reading process. Reading together opens up fantastic avenues of communication between parents and children.*
*Students that are new to Darlington School have the option of completing our summer reading and math assignments and will not be penalized for not completing the assignments.
