Readers to the Rescue!
A Summer Reading Marathon
This year Darlington is excited to offer a fun, new summer reading program that allows students to serve a great cause and earn prizes at the same time. Readers to the Rescue is a marathon style program that uses minutes instead of miles to raise money for a good cause. This year, Darlington has chosen to support The Warrior Canine Connection, an organization created and run by veterans that raises and trains service dogs for veterans.
Every minute students read this summer will raise money for the Warrior Canine Connection. Students only need to log their minutes reading (or being read to!) on their tracking form and turn them in at the beginning of the school year. Darlington Library will calculate all minutes read and make a donation to the Warrior Canine Connection based on the total minutes read. We are asking all students to set a goal of 1000 minutes of reading this summer, but any amount of time spent reading helps us reach our goal.
We are so pleased to offer this program that not only engages our students and helps a great cause, but also carries our value of Service Beyond Self into the summer months. Our students have always shown a strong sense of service, and we hope that this added incentive will encourage even more students to read.
In between all of your reading and fun this summer, don’t forget to come by the
library website to check for book recommendations, updates from your librarian, and of course the Warrior Canine PuppyCam! Have an amazing summer, and as always, happy reading!

You can keep track of your reading on the Summer Reading Log. Please bring your reading log with you when you come back to school in August. It can be turned in to the library or to your homeroom teacher. You can also e-mail a scanned copy to Mary-Kate Fowee at Mfowee@darlingtonschool.org
