Upper School Parent and Student Handbook 2023-2024

Eligibility

Students must be eligible, according to GHSA rules and regulations, in order to participate on Darlington school teams.

Coaches are encouraged to monitor the grades of their student-athletes in and out of season. If a coach or Athletic Director feel that the academic expectation is failing and the student athlete is in jeopardy of losing eligibility, coaches can suspend the players from all athletics until improvement is shown.

The Student Support Team assesses student's needs in order to initiate accommodations and/or interventions to promote academic success. Additional interventions, as or in addition to those outlined in the above policy, may be instituted as the Students of Concern Committee takes action to insure the highest academic and athletics standards are promoted. Please see the Glenn Teaching and Learning Center section of this handbook for more information.

Eligibility and The Academies
Prospective athletic academy participants should note the Georgia High School Association’s rule of eligibility with regard to athletic participation at Darlington’s varsity level. Students who elect to enroll in the Soccer Academy willingly forgo their eligibility to play varsity soccer throughout the time of their academy participation and for one full year after withdrawing from the academy. (Form must be completed in the Soccer Academy Office.)

Darlington students participating in the Tennis Academy at Rome Tennis Center or Coosa Junior Golf Academy may still play on Darlington’s varsity teams as long as the student-athlete was not actively “recruited” for an academy team.
