Darlington Connects: Chase Pittman (’17)

We're excited to connect with our alumni through our new Darlington Connects series. Today we hear from Chase Pittman (‘17), a senior at Furman University and creator of ScrubSome.com

Chase Pittman is not your typical college student. An economics major at Furman University, he has spent his time wisely. He’s done some sports writing for SportsTalkAtl covering both baseball and basketball and some of his work was even picked up by Bleacher Report (a leading sports news website). Chase’s passion for sports is translating to his plan to attend grad school next year in sports management.

Sitting in class last November, Chase had an idea.

“I probably should have been paying attention, but I just couldn’t get my mind off the idea of how to clean up your old social media accounts,” he said.

He did some research, thinking there must be a product out there that does this for people, but found nothing. He shared his idea with some friends and family and formed a team to develop a solution. That’s how ScrubSome.com was born with this motto: "We believe in second chances and using our social media soap is the best way to accomplish a clean start on your social media pages!”

Essentially, the program uses an algorhythm that looks for keywords in past social posts and removes any offensive posts permanently. The web application currently works on Twitter accounts and their Facebook application will be rolled out in the near future.

“With ScrubSome.com, now that dumb comment you made when you were fourteen won’t prevent you from landing that great new job,” says Chase.

“Darlington has had a heavy influence on my ambition and willingness to take a risk," he says. "Seeing what other people accomplished and being around other kids with a lot of drive definitely left an impression. My teachers always supported my ideas.”

Chase thinks he’ll keep his entrepreneur spirit. “I hope I never stop looking for solutions to problems,” he said.

Are you a Darlington alum (or do you know one) with a career or interest that is fascinating and unique? We'd love to spotlight you in a future blog! Please email connect@darlingtonschool.org if you are interested in being featured.
