We're excited to connect with our alumni through our new Darlington Connects series. Today we hear from Juli Mull Lemming (‘03), with Owens Sporting Goods Company, Inc.
Juli Mull Lemming (’03) is a Darlington legacy and a Dar Baby, having attended Darlington from pre-K to 12th grade. Now you can find her pursuing another family legacy at Owens Sporting Goods Company, Inc., a family-owned and managed business in downtown Rome. Juli owns and operates the business with her father Allen Mull (’69) and her brother Logan Mull (’97).
Operating since 1923, Owens Sporting Goods offers customized team gear: sports uniforms, apparel, footwear, and equipment for baseball, football, lacrosse, basketball, soccer, wrestling, volleyball, and softball teams. They also provide in-house designing, screen printing, and embroidery. Owens Sporting Goods Company services youth sports in the community, as well as hundreds of schools throughout Georgia and Alabama. Juli said they consider themselves “The Team Specialist.”
When asked what she loves about their business she said, “I love that Owens is a family owned business, and some of our employees have been with the company since the Mull family bought it in 1982.”
Juli is passionate about sports because children learn teamwork, self-confidence, discipline, healthy lifestyle habits, and being able to accept defeat.
"Sports, in my opinion, are a very important part of a child’s youth, and I love being part of a business that can make that possible,” she said.
Juli shared that during her time at Darlington, she was able to make invaluable connections that she has carried through adulthood.
“The Darlington Community does such a great job of teaching loyalty, honor, and service," she said. "These important qualities have helped me in connecting with, and leading, our employees. It is important to me that our company has a footprint in all of Georgia and Alabama.”
