The Leadership Rome XXXV class is underway and two Darlington faculty members are among the participants. Hope Jones, director of Pre-K to 8 and Beth Wardlaw, technology integration specialist, have been selected to be a part of this nine-month program.

"Participation in Leadership Rome is of great strategic importance to Darlington,” said Brent Bell, head of school. “Not only am I excited for Hope and Beth to learn more about the community in which they live, I am also excited about how the connections they make can enhance Darlington's role in our community."

Leadership Rome is a Rome Floyd Chamber program that brings together community members from a variety of backgrounds. Participants are educated on all aspects of Rome and Floyd County, increasing their awareness of opportunities as well as challenges faced. Over the course of the program topics covered will include law and government, healthcare, economic development and transportation, education, industry and business, and more.

“Leadership Rome is a wonderful opportunity for me to connect with the community on behalf of my role at Darlington,” said Jones. “Learning more about this great city will provide me with the necessary tools to engage in thoughtful service learning opportunities, strengthen my ability to attract new hires, and continue my efforts to connect with potential new families.

Wardlaw is also thrilled to participate in the program, and sees it as a way to further connect Darlington students and activities to the local community.

“Rome has been home to my family for many generations, and I am passionate about seeing our beautiful community continue to flourish. I love seeing how much Rome has changed in just my lifetime,” said Wardlaw. “I can’t wait to see how this experience will enhance not only my personal life, but my connection to the Darlington community as well. I would really love to see how our school's passion for community service as well as STEM integration could reach out into our community and see the town of Rome continue to embrace this ‘Maker Movement.’ I hope to find some solid connections with leaders in Rome to move forward in this endeavor.”
