Each fall we welcome a few new faces to the Darlington Community and we’re thrilled to introduce you to Matt Enderle, Upper School math teacher.

Matt holds a B.A. in Mathematics from Texas A&M University, an M.A. in Spanish Translation and Interpreting from the University of Texas, and Georgia Educator Certificates in Mathematics (Grades 6-12) and Spanish (Grades P-12). Most recently, Matt taught math at Rome High School but has also taught at Alliance Academy International in Quito, Ecuador, and the Liberal Arts and Science Academy in Austin, Texas.

Let’s meet Matt!

Where did you grow up?
Corpus Christi, Texas.

Tell us a little about your family…
My wife, Rebecca, grew up in Toccoa, Ga. and we met at the start of our first year teaching at a Christian International School in Quito, Ecuador. She is currently a preschool teacher at Rome First School. Our daughter, Ande, is two and this summer we took her on a five week trip through Central America. Rebecca and I enjoy traveling as well as playing music together. Ande loves playing with playdough, reading books about animals, and singing.

Why did you choose to come to Darlington?
The face of everyone I meet that works at Darlington lights up when they describe what they do at the school, and they all seem to absolutely love working here. It seems like such a great place in terms of academics, athletics, and arts. The campus is stunning.

Your seven word philosophy on education…
Students, teachers, parents working together for learning.

What makes a good teacher?
Vision for how far students can go and patience as it is achieved.

What music is playing in your car?
I'm currently listening to a French instructional CD, which I guess technically isn't music.

What’s your favorite podcast?
I haven't heard many podcasts, but I remember really liking Radiolab the few times I've listened to it.

Who was your favorite teacher (and why)?
Three teachers had a huge impact on my education. Mr. Gonzalez was my fifth grade teacher and he was great because he would play basketball with us during recess while I later realized he could have used that time to do other things. Mr. Yaz taught geometry and had the highest expectations I've ever seen from a teacher. He wouldn't accept anything less than our best. In high school, Mr. Parks taught geography. He had such a passion for what he taught and wasn't afraid to be goofy and make us laugh, many times at his own expense.

My favorite movie is…
“The Matrix”

What makes a good student?
A student that knows why he or she is in school.

My favorite trip was…
Argentina because I love the way they speak Spanish.

If I could travel anywhere it would be…
Spain

E-book or hardcover?
Hardcover

Beach or mountains?
Mountains

The last book I read for fun was…
“Our Marvelous Native Tongue: The Life and Times of the English Language” by Robert Claiborne

The best advice I ever received was…
So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:34

My hobby is…
Mountain biking

Cats or dogs?
Dogs
