Let the Games Begin: Gamification in the Joanne G. Yancey Library

A new game has been introduced in Thatcher Hall and the citizens of Darlontonia couldn't be more excited! Conquer the Realm is a whole school reading program that has students and teachers competing for their queen or king, taking over land, and hopefully winning a grand feast at the end of the year.

In a land far away, several centuries ago, the people prospered under the great rule of one leader. However, as time passed, a great plague darkened the land and mass chaos ensued. The Oracle of Darlontonia saw this problem and came up with a solution. She gathered four rulers she found worthy of being the rightful heir to the Darlontonia throne and gave them the task of building their kingdoms through knowledgeable conquest and hopefully defeat the great evil. 

The Game: Conquer the Realm

Students have been randomly assigned one of the 4 great kingdoms. These include:

• Strong arm Lodge - King Ironpage (Mathis)
• Mystical Lagoon - Queen Marela Aquatine (Human)
• Forestia Manor - Queen Aspen Lightleaf (Manning)
• Zen Nation - King Roshi Wu-wei (Cooper)

All students start off as citizens and can only gain rank by reading and completing one of the 12 reading projects.
