In 2011, the Darlington Community provided financial aid support to more than 35 eligible Darlington students by redirecting their Georgia tax dollars to the Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program. Thanks to this generosity, we are able to continue helping deserving students, such as the children of Upper School Counselor Chris Allen.

Chris had this to say:

“This is my sixth year living and working at Darlington School. My wife and I are both duty teachers in the dorms and thoroughly enjoy getting to know all of the students. I am a school counselor, AP Psychology teacher and basketball coach. I also have daughters in grades 5 and 2 who take great pride in their school and LOVE being a part of this amazing community. As a family, we literally eat, sleep and breath Darlington…and we love it!

Without the Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program, my girls would not be able to go to school here. When you are deciding whether to redirect your tax dollars to student scholarships through this organization, please understand that it is helping real families like mine. Your gift does make a difference - it made a huge difference for my daughters and I thank you for it."

If you haven’t already heard about the Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program, it works like this. Georgia residents or anyone who pays state taxes in Georgia can redirect their Georgia tax dollars to help fund tuition assistance for new students entering a participating independent school. This also qualifies you for a charitable tax deduction on your federal tax return and generates a tax credit on your Georgia tax return. It’s a win-win!

To redirect your tax dollars for the benefit of students like Chris Allen's children in 2011 we recommend that you act now. The program’s $50 million cap was nearly met in 2010, and is expected to be reached early this year. It is possible that thousands of taxpayers who attempt to participate late in the year will be excluded from the opportunity in 2011.

If you have any questions or would like to participate, please feel free to call or email me. Thank you, in advance, for your gift of opportunity for future Darlington students like the Allen girls.
