Students in the seventh grade programming exploratory used their problem-solving skills to design a boat using only a small piece of aluminum foil. At the start of the course, they learned that programming/coding is all about solving problems. They went through the design thinking cycle, starting with identifying the problem, designing then building a prototype, testing the prototype, re-design, evaluate, and then reflect. The goal was to hold 12 pennies, dropping one at a time. The team with the most pennies won. Grace Cowan and Aryana Patel ended up winning with 20 pennies! Several teams held more during the testing stage, but they ended up "sinking under the pressure" in the end.
