Our second-graders have been studying winter holidays from around the world, especially Christmas. On Wednesday, Dec. 5 the Jewels received a visit from Sinterklaas as they celebrated the Dutch winter holiday.
The children arrived to find their shoes were stuffed with delicious chocolate treats from Sinterklaas just like Dutch children. Later in the day, Keesjan Albers (Chandler's dad) joined the Jewels to share about growing up in the Netherlands, Christmas traditions and some of his favorite Dutch foods. He and Mrs. Albers treated the children to homemade Apple Cake (a Dutch tradition), Holland Rusk with Dutch Chocolate Sprinkles, and delicious Windmill cookies.
