Senior Hamilton Shamblin has been named Noon Optimist Student of the Month for January.
"Hamilton has a wonderful, dry sense of humor!" said Dean of College Guidance Ivy Brewer, his college adviser. "He has a very tight-knit group of friends that share his same interests. That’s not to say that it is an exclusive group; on the contrary, Hamilton is one of the most welcoming young men I know, eager to have others join in. As a scholar, an athlete, and a leader, Hamilton will thrive in college. He exudes confidence."
A day student who has been enrolled at Darlington since pre-K, Shamblin has taken 18 Honors and AP courses during his high school career. He is a member of National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and Physics Club. A day leader in Moser House, he is also a four-year member of the Golf Academy and varsity golf teams.
Outside of school, Shamblin is a member of YoungLife and volunteers with Floyd Felines, local golf camps, and Camp Darlington. Additionally, he interns at a local engineering company.
The son of Robin and Mark Shamblin of Rome, Hamilton will be honored at an Optimist Club luncheon on Jan. 24.
