Hello! My name is Clare Cao. My Senior Ventures project focuses on how to prevent injuries while participating in physical activities like exercise and sports. I selected this topic because during sports and exercise, without proper training, a person can become severely injured.
From my own experiences during ballet training, I understand and I have witnessed that training and performing injuries can cause long-term hurt, obstruct future training, and cause psychological problems. My project goal is to find abundant ways of protecting people from sports related injuries.
Donny Brown, one of Darlington School's athletic trainers, is my mentor. He is assisting me with learning more about sports injuries and how they can be prevented. My first step is to conduct a survey asking Darlington students and faculty members to share information regarding the sports related injuries they have endured and to learn how they were able to recover. Then, I will work with Mr. Brown to develop a handbook to teach students how to prevent injuries and what to do if they are injured.
I love dance, and I also want to learn more about physical therapy. Physical therapy helps you strengthen the muscles associated with your injury as well as surrounding muscles. I think I will be able to combine my passion for dance and physical therapy through my research and working with Mr. Brown.
Senior Ventures is a year-long academic program built on a framework of leadership, innovation and community engagement.
