Day #SeniorSpotlight: Knox Sirmans

Tannika King | April 30, 2021 | 687 views

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

In this #SeniorSpotlight, get to know Knox Sirmans, a 14-year day student from Rome who has signed to play golf at Hampden-Sydney College.

When you think of high school, what song comes to mind?
“November Air” by Zach Bryan

What's your favorite show to binge on Netflix?
“Cheers”

What house are you a member of?
Moser House

What are you involved in at Darlington?
Golf Academy, varsity golf, varsity swim, Orchestra, Honor Council, Y-Cabinet

If you play sports, who is your favorite coach and why?
Coach Willerson is my favorite coach because he is always supportive of us individually and as a team. He is the only coach I have had that could get a golf team so pumped up and want to go out and blow the competition away.

If you are involved in fine arts, what is your favorite activity and why?
In the Orchestra, I love when we are able to come together and perform to show people how much work goes into our music.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?
The Chapel is my favorite place on campus because we all can come together as a community to focus on each of our faiths without pressure from the outside world.

Who's your favorite teacher and why?
Mr. McDurmon is my favorite teacher because he pushed me to be the best student I could be. He showed that if I put the work in on my side, he was very willing to help me on his. He treated me as an equal instead of just another student.

What's your favorite thing about Darlington?
The mutual respect between the students is my favorite thing about Darlington. If you are in need of help, you can find it anywhere if you are willing to just ask.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
At Darlington, I have had the opportunity to meet people from all over the world with a variety of backgrounds, which I don’t think is easy to find anywhere.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
Considering I have been at Darlington for 14 years, I have grown in a number of ways. I think the most important way I have grown is that I have learned to keep an open mind in everything I do. I have met so many different people and learned about so many different cultures that I have had to take a step back from my own to try and understand how other people think.

Where do you want to go to college and what is your dream job?
I am going to Hampden-Sydney to play golf in college. My dream job is to be a land and water rights lawyer to help protect small farms like the one my family owns.
