Boarding #SeniorSpotlight: Alice Barngrover

Jennifer Collins | March 9, 2021 | 248 views

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

In this #SeniorSpotlight get to know Alice Barngrover, a three-year boarding student from Columbus, Ga., who is spearheading Darlington’s Green Team recycling program.

When you think of high school, what song comes to mind?

“Life is a Highway” (the song from my first RUMPUS, our weekend-long competition between the dorms)

What's your favorite show to binge on Netflix?

“Money Heist”

What house are you a member of?

Regester House

What are you involved in at Darlington?

Golf team, Servant Leadership, Green Team, French Club, Senior Ventures

What's your favorite place on campus and why?

Silver Lake is my favorite place on campus because when I walk around it I feel more calm.

Who's your favorite teacher and why?

Mr. Allen is my favorite teacher because he makes his classroom feel very welcoming. He creates an environment where I am never nervous to talk, when most of the time I am nervous to talk.

What's your favorite thing about Darlington?

My favorite thing about Darlington is all the different cultures.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.

I think my experience living in a dorm is something I couldn't have had anywhere else.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?

On top of being prepared academically, I feel even more prepared for college because of my experience in the dorms. Because I have lived in the dorms for almost three years, I have learned to be a lot more independent.

Where do you want to go to college and what is your dream job?

I haven't decided where I want to go yet but I hope to end up in either Boston or D.C., and my dream job is to be a pediatric surgeon.
