Seniors Kacey Kemp and Rhett McDurmon have been selected to represent Darlington in the Rome-Floyd Parks & Recreation Authority's John Pinson Jr. Outstanding Student Athlete scholarship competition.

Named in memory of Rome-Floyd Sports Hall of Fame member John Pinson Jr., the scholarship award program recognizes two high school senior athletes in Rome and Floyd County annually with a $1,000 college scholarship.

Kemp is a member of the cross country, swimming and track teams. She placed third at state for discus in 2016 and eighth at state for shot put in 2017. Last year, she was named Most Valuable Player for girls' track and also received the Jeff Gaither Award for Track and Field. She is the daughter of Bridget Kemp of Nassau, Bahamas, and the late Stephen Kemp.

McDurmon is a member and captain of the football and wrestling teams. He was named to the Rome News-Tribune All-Area Football Team, the Rome News-Tribune All-Area Wrestling Team and the 2018 6A All-Region Football Team. Last weekend, McDurmon won his second individual state wrestling title at the GHSA Traditional Wrestling State Championships in the 170-pound weight class. He has also received the Football Scholar Award and the Wrestling Scholar Award. He is the son of Heather and Kelly McDurmon of Rome.

One female student and one male student will each be presented with a $1,000 scholarship at the Rome-Floyd Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet at Berry College on Feb. 25.

To be eligible for the award, candidates must have received local, area, regional or state recognition in athletics and be active in school and community organizations and activities. They must also have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, three letters of recommendation, and submit an essay about what it means to be a student-athlete. Each candidate will be scored based on individual scholastic achievement, individual athletic achievement, school and community involvement, and their essay.
