Learning is contagious when you enter
Tinsley Ray’s K4 classroom in the
Early Learning Academy. Singing the alphabet and dancing the Macarena to learn the months of the year are just two of the many activities that she implements into her instructional day. Singing, dancing, playing and laughing are vital components of a pre-K classroom, and you will ALWAYS see these activities happen when you are in Mrs. Ray's.
The environment that Mrs. Ray has created makes her students feel safe and loved. Students are constantly interacting with each other during hands-on centers and whole-group lessons. This gives them the opportunity to develop social skills and build friendships, which we know are critical lessons for the K4 age group.
One way Mrs. Ray teaches reading is through story time. Predicting what will happen next in the story, describing characters, questioning details of the story, and relating the story to their own life experiences are foundational reading skills.
Mrs. Ray’s students also recite Darlington’s Motto every day. Teaching characteristics of being a good citizen, setting high expectations for learning and behavior, instilling the love of learning, and creating developmentally appropriate lessons are the many reasons Mrs. Ray shines as a member of the Darlington Community.
