As we approach the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons, students get so caught up in the holiday festivities that studying for final exams may be difficult. After talking with students this week, we offer the following advice:
1. Next week is not a vacation, but more of a break from classes. We encourage you to study at least one hour per day.
2. Review old tests and notes to determine areas that need more intensive review.
3. Once classes resume, meet with your teachers to answer questions that may need clarification.
4. Rework math problems and make sure you can explain how to work the problems as well as just get an answer.
5. Get plenty of rest and exercise.
6. Avoid cramming when you return by preparing each day.
7. Form a study group to get assistance and help with preparation.
8. Attend all study sessions offered by the teacher.
While many ninth-grade students are preparing for exams for the first time, remember not to stress over the process. You will remember more than you think. The final exam schedule is as follows:
Monday: 8 am (history), 1 pm (math)
Tuesday: 8 am (English), 1 pm (second science)
Wednesday: 8 am (science), 1 pm (technology)
Thursday: 8 am (world languages)
Friday: Make-up exams (to be scheduled with teacher)
Students should get plenty of rest, exercise and water during exam week. Sleep is very powerful in helping you learn and remember more clearly. Getting to exams on time ready and refreshed will also improve performance on the exams.
Once finals are over, you can rest, relax and have a happy holiday season! We at the Teaching and Learning Center wish all students well on their exams.
