ELA-8: Preparing for September

Jennifer Helbing | August 30, 2013 | 40 views

Another great week is under our belts! Everyone had a great smile for the pictures on Wednesday; staging 300+ students for the panoramic was quite a feat! Thanks to Kimberly Moseley and Kathleen Hughes for facilitating this day. Our first fire drill this morning was smooth. Athletics are under way and off to a great start. However, we are all exhausted and many people’s immune systems have taken a hit. Let’s be thankful for a long weekend, and I hope that you and your family are able to relax and enjoy the extra day!

Reminders

Please remember that, per our Uniform Guidelines, socks must be solid white, black, brown or gray.

Upcoming Events

  • Bring a water bottle or milk jug to tonight’s football game! Tiger Pride will be set up to make noisemakers!
  • School will be closed on Monday, Sept. 2, for Labor Day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
  • On Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 7:30 a.m., FCA will meet in Coach Rice’s room. Joey Rice and Darcy Liddle will be the leaders for this group.
  • After-School Activities begin next week for students in grades 1-5. Please make sure that you have signed up your children with Wendy Payne.
  • Please remember that every Wednesday is a late start. School begins at 8:15 a.m.
  • Next Wednesday’s Assembly topic for our division will be Safety. This will be the first assembly for ELA-2. Bebe Zazzaro and I will discuss the need for safety procedures and drills within our school. Fire, severe weather and intruder drills will be explained on a level that is appropriate for each audience. Our goal for these conversations is for students to understand and feel safe on our campus and empowered in their daily lives.

Looking Ahead

Back-to-School Night will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 17. We will begin at 5:30 p.m. for ELA, 6 p.m. for grades 1-2, 6:30 p.m. for grades 3-5 and 7 p.m. for grades 6-8. Each level will hold a 30-minute presentation for parents to attend. More details will be released soon.

Counselor’s Corner: Bebe Zazzaro

Our character tenet for this month is Unity, which is defined as being a complete whole. Through our mission statement, our teachers and advisors are supporting our immediate community. Let’s pause and remember (teachers, staff, students, and families) how powerful we are when we work together, support one another, and confront conflict with respect. Together we are doing great things. We are all passionate people who love our Darlington children and want the best for each one of them. Let’s be unified as one family and continue to encourage each other.
