Darlington’s Math Team took first place at the Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics state-wide tournament on Saturday, April 28, in Macon, Ga.
“Only 36 schools in the state are invited to compete,” said Lynn Cox, math team adviser.
The event, which took place at Macon College, consists of a 50-question written test, individual ciphering and group ciphering. Only four students from each school are allowed to compete. Top scorers for Darlington were junior Du Zhang and senior Gun Chanatrutipan. Other members of Darlington’s team were sophomore Jenny Chen and senior Dave Zhu.
Darlington received a trophy for first place in the Class A division (there were six divisions in all). Their score was the highest of all GISA, A and AA schools. Additionally, Zhang was selected to the American Regions Mathematics League (ARML), a state math team consisting of only 30 students. This team will compete nationally in early summer.
"I am extremely proud of our group of students and am so happy to see them rewarded for their hard work all year,” Cox said.
