Mark your calendar for Friday, May 4, as you will not want to miss Muffins for Moms -- our annual celebration, sponsored by Tiger PRIDE, that honors our mothers!
The event takes place in the gym, with refreshments starting at 7:45 a.m. There will be no Dar Trek that morning, so parents can arrive with their children. Early arrivals are welcome. Refreshments will be served until 8:15 a.m. At this time, the students will take their guests to the classrooms for a visit. Teachers are preparing something special for the parents. If moms are not available to attend, please feel free to invite a grandparent, a family member or special friend. The program concludes at 8:45 a.m. We look forward to our moms’ visit!
The fourth-grade students have been very busy preparing their science fair projects and learning about the scientific method. Last Friday, they had an opportunity to present their projects to the judges, parents and their peers. The students learned a lot about how to conduct an experiment using trial and error. They also learned how to present the information in a clear and concise way utilizing a hypothesis, research, data collection, and stating a conclusion. Every experiment had to ask a question and involve a process for solving the problem through experimentation. Congratulations to Molly Brewer for earning first place with her clever project on “Popcorn Popability.”
Congratulations also to our other winners:
Second Place: Teagan Martin with "Dynamics of Paper Airplanes"
Third Place: Karson Swiger with "The Power of Distractions"
Fourth Place: Lucy Bearden with "Which Potato Chip is More Greasy?"
Fifth Place: Kennan Milford with "Battery Lightning"
Sixth Place: Madeline Lewis with "Bacteria – What Does It Look Like?"
All of the above students will compete Friday, April 27, at the Berry Elementary and Middle School Science Fair. Thanks to Byron Dacy and the fourth grade team, Flo Anthony and Rebekah Kinney, for assisting with the projects. These teachers do a great job educating our students about the scientific method! They shared that they were very pleased with all of the projects and the hard work and effort that went into the science fair. Congratulation to all of our students for a job well done!
The third-grade classes continue with spring achievement testing. Test results will be sent home on Monday, April 30. First grade will continue with testing the week of April 30, and the fourth grade will test during the week of May 7. Parents, please ensure that your children are on time for school and that they have a good night’s sleep and a hearty breakfast.
