The Concert Choir, Ladies’ Chorale and Middle School Chorus performed well at the District 7 Large Group Performance Evaluation Choral Festival at Woodland High School in Cartersville earlier this month.

“Each group performed two pieces for a panel of judges, and also had to sight read a piece of music,” explained Erin Westmaas, Upper School choral director. “I was very proud of the progress our groups have made this year; they gave confident and strong performances.”

The Concert Choir performed David Brunner’s “I am in Need of Music” and C.A. Pinto Fonseca’s “Muié Rendêra.” The Ladies’ Chorale performed Linda Spevacek’s “The Song in the Air” and Amy F. Bernon’s “Come in from the Firefly Darkness.” The Middle School Chorus performed Dave and Jean Perry’s “Sing a Jubilant Song” and Joseph Martin’s “The Journey.”

The Concert Choir and Middle School Chorus were rated Superior, while the Ladies Chorale were rated Excellent. The judges complimented the Upper School groups’ lovely tone, clear diction and professional stage presence and the Middle School students for singing with confidence.

“The LGPE festival gives us a chance to show our presence in Northwest Georgia, as many of the schools from the area participate in the festival, and the festival is judged by directors from local colleges and choral societies,” Westmaas said. “This was the first time Concert Choir has participated in quite a few years, so we were very excited to have received a perfect score!”

The Concert Choir is competing at the Music in the Parks festival at Universal Studios, Orlando this week.
