Grand/Special Day: A Salute to Our Veterans

Lower School students are preparing for Grand/Special Day, a super event that honors our grandparents and special friends while showcasing our music program. This year's event will take place on Friday, April 13. We are excited for all of our guests (including parents!) to experience the work that is being done in the areas of choral music, strings and band. Our theme this year is "Salute to Our Veterans," and a special tribute has been planned to recognize veterans and their spouses.

The day starts at 8 a.m. with a “meet and greet” in Tiger Hall, which will be converted into a coffee house to serve light refreshments and provide ample seating for our guests. From 8:30 to 9:15 a.m., our grandparents and special guests will visit classrooms. At that time, they will be dismissed to the gym for our “Salute to Our Veterans” musical program. Following the program, the students will be dismissed to the refreshment areas while grandparents and special guests remain for special and unique recognition. Refreshments will be served in three locations – Primary Circle, the grassy area near the gym, and behind Thornwood Administration Building. Campus tours will be conducted by the students from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Early dismissal takes place at 11:45 a.m.

Our hats go off to Ashley Henry, Annie Camp and Will Camp, who have been working diligently with the students to produce an amazing program. Ashley designed the program, selected the music, and will direct the performance. Tiger PRIDE's Grand/Special Day chairperson this year is Kim Price, who is orchestrating the invitations, decorations and support that is needed on the day of the event. (Our Tiger PRIDE parents do such a great job supporting all of our classroom and school-wide events and we thank them!) Invitations have been sent via email to all of our parents so they can let the grandparents know. Please let the classroom teacher know as soon as possible how many guests will be attending from your family.

Mark your calendar for April 13 for a very special day as we salute our veterans! You won't want to miss it!

April 4 is a Late Start Day for the month. Students report directly to their classrooms – there is no Dar Trek. Parent volunteers will be in the classrooms at 7:30 a.m. Teachers will be back from the school-wide meeting by 8:30 a.m. Special thanks to Sally Scarbrough, who organizes the parent support for these days.

As a reminder, ERB achievement testing will take place for grade 2 during the week of April 16 and for grade 3 the week of April 23. Parents, please note that the best way to have your child ready is to ensure that they have a good night’s sleep, a good breakfast in the morning and are on time for school. Testing begins promptly at 8:15 a.m. in the Computer Lab. All testing is done online. Thank you for your cooperation with this request.
