Making the Switch

Change can often be difficult, especially for a person who has taught for 40 years. Besides teaching Algebra I, Chemistry and Physics, and for over 15 years an AP Computer Science course, I was being asked to move from the classroom to the Advancement Team. I was expected to swap java objects for the Annual Fund or compilers for call reports. What was this about?

As my first year with the Advancement Team draws to a close, I readily admit it has been a wonderful learning experience. Making the switch from encouraging students to work hard and be successful, to actually visiting alumni who are having great successes in their careers, is a very satisfying and warming experience.

And, I have found that everyone has a great story to tell.  Whether it was dormitory mischief, an athletic event, or classroom experience, there was always a teacher or coach in the background with optimistic words to guide the student forward. Reflect back on your time at Darlington. Why not share your story with us?
