Students in Darlington’s Drama and Musical Theater classes will present a concert version of “Annie” on May 7 and 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Middle School Courtyard. They will be joined by several students from the Lower and Middle divisions.
“This is the junior version of ‘Annie,’ which means it is shorter than the Broadway-style production with limited costumes and sets,” said co-director Rudy Childs. “All the cast members have been working hard, and they are really looking forward to this performance. The fact that this event will take place outdoors is going to make it more casual and fun. We hope everybody comes out to support these students.”
Fifth-grader Gianna Pieroni will play the role of “Annie,” with her puppy, Skittles, starring as “Sandy.” Juniors David Stelly and Ali Harton will play “Daddy Warbucks” and “Grace.” Senior Jamie Vincent will play “Ms. Hannigan.” Senior Stefan Dill and junior Callie Craton will play “Rooster” and “Lily.”
The performance will feature well-known songs like “Maybe,” “Hard-Knock Life,” “Tomorrow,” “Little Girls,” “I Think I’m Gonna Like It Here,” “NYC,” “Easy Street,” “You Won’t Be An Orphan For Long,” “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile” and “I Don’t Need Anything But You.”
Admission is $5 for students/seniors and $8 for adults. Concessions will be sold during intermission as a fundraiser for The Darlington Players. In case of rain, the show will take place in the Van Es Arena of the Huffman Athletic Center.
