Even the most committed student looks forward to the lazy days of summer when there are no textbooks to read, papers to write or problems to solve. But the investment of time and brain power may translate into better grades, test scores and a more success.
According to findings from the Harvard Family Research Project, “When students actively participate in summer programs, and particularly when they are encouraged to participate by their families, they stand to improve their reading and math levels going into the next grade, as well as their standardized test scores. In addition, academically focused summer programs help students successfully transition into the next grade level, a benefit attributable to smaller class size, individualized learning, and personal attention by teachers...”
Darlington supports summer academic opportunities and has created several. Each division and its teachers encourage these expanded learning opportunities: optional and required summer reading, Web site activities, SAT prep through Naviance and a variety of summer projects, to name a few.
This year, there are even more options for you to choose!
Increasing your time by the pool may improve your tan, but it won’t improve your knowledge and skill. Don’t let the summer be a missed learning opportunity for anyone in your family!
