In a year where every penny counts, Darlington is pleased to be able to offer additional scholarship opportunities for new students through the Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program. To date, the school community has already committed $29,500 through the program – funds which are available to help public school students who are transferring to Darlington or who are eligible to enter kindergarten.
“Under a 2008 law, Georgia taxpayers can contribute to a qualified student scholarship organization, such as the GOAL Scholarship Program, and receive a tax credit against their Georgia income taxes,” said Faye Fron, chief development officer. “This new law represents an incredible victory for the school choice movement, and your participation in GOAL is critical to making this victory a meaningful one. Chances are, if you live in Georgia you are already paying state taxes, so why not redirect a portion of those funds and provide scholarship assistance to a family in need? It’s a win-win situation.”
Through the GOAL Scholarship Program, individuals may contribute up to $1,000; married couples may contribute up to $2,500; and “C” Corporations may contribute up to 75 percent of their Georgia income tax liability. “S” Corporations and LLC or LLP members are limited to the individual tax credit limitations. To participate in the program and to qualify for a 2009 tax credit, pre-approval forms must be postmarked for delivery to the Department of Revenue on or before Nov. 1, 2009.
“We know that this is truly a difficult time for any of us to make monetary sacrifices, even in the form of a redirection,” said James Milford, director of admission, “but if you are able to do anything, please do it. Many students have to say no to Darlington because of finances, but this program is helping us change that. Once the GOAL money is received, we are able to offer immediate financial aid awards, thus making a difference in the lives of students who are perfect candidates for admission to Darlington, but simply do not have the financial means necessary to afford full tuition. I take pride in knowing that my own redirection will help a deserving new student join the Darlington family this year.”
