Day #SeniorSpotlight: Jake Trebus

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

Let’s get to know Jake Trebus, a seven-year day student from Rome and three-sport athlete.

When you think of Darlington, what three words come to mind first?
Community, integrity, service

What's your favorite restaurant in Rome?
Las Palmas

What house are you a member of?
Neville

What are you involved in at Darlington?
Leader in Neville House, football, soccer, and basketball

If you play sports, who is your favorite coach and why?
My favorite coach throughout all the time I've been at Darlington has to be Coach Bell. Whether it was for basketball or football, Coach Bell would never sugarcoat anything. He would be honest about what he thought and would never shy away from doing a little bit of yelling. He always wanted the best for all his players and would support them through anything they did outside of their sport. He has left a valuable impact on not only my sports career, also my life in general.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?
The dorms are probably my favorite place on campus due to the diversity that you will find in them. There are so many people from different countries, so you have the opportunity to learn so many new things from these people. Overall, it's just a very unique experience that you cannot receive from many other places that I value dearly.

Who's your favorite teacher and why?
Mr. Evans is my favorite teacher/faculty member. Not only did he teach my AP Gov class, but he is also my advisor. He has helped me tremendously throughout the college application process as well as made our advisory a thing to look forward to, instead of it being more of a chore to attend. As my Gov teacher, he always wanted the students to gain the most knowledge they could while also having a fun time in the class. Even if it took him years to grade tests, having him as a teacher and an advisor has made my Darlington experience so much more enjoyable.

What’s your favorite thing about Darlington?
One of my favorite things about Darlington is how there is no restriction to sports you can play. At some schools, students may be restricted or influenced to play only one sport. It is the complete opposite here since you are more encouraged to play multiple sports, sometimes even in the same season.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
The whole process of RUMPUS is something very unique to Darlington. No other school has something anywhere close to that. The entire weekend is such a great way of bridging the gap of day and dorm students as well as creating a stronger community for the school as a whole.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
Initially, I was not good friends with many dorm students. I hung more around the people I had grown up with instead of branching out. Now, the majority of my friends are dorm students, and I would advocate for more people to do the same.

What is your dream job?
Lawyer

If you have already committed to a college, please let us know which one you will be attending.
