Pre-K to 8 Annual Book Drive

Monday, March 4, 2024 | By Bebe Zazzaro | 204 views

The annual Pre-K to 8 book drive was a success! We collected 4,162 books, well past our goal of 2,500. The week was full of special guests and students giving from the heart to those in need.

In past years, students have been motivated to give by earning a dress down day. The student Service Committee took a hard look at our motto, which features the ideal of Service Beyond Self, and challegened students to give from the heart. Our slogan was "Lend a paw to someone in need." For the four school days of the challege, students counted and recorded the number of books brought in, and each morning we would announce the new numbers. We had Mrs. Miller bring the Cartersville Book Mobile to school and talk about their work passing out books to children in Cartersville. We also had LaDonna Collins, the executive director of the Rome-Floyd County Commission on Children and Youth, speak at flagpole and share the work her group does to increase literacy in Rome.

At the end of the week, students, teachers and parents participated in our book-packing party. At this event, students counted, sorted, packed and stacked all of the books that were collected. We celebrated surpassing our goal and collecting a grand total of 4,162 books. Way to go, Tigers! These books will go into the hands of children all over Rome. Thank you for your generosity and service.
